Ethical & Environmental Policy Ethical Policy At Toykind we will only sell products that we know have been fairly produced. We know that by selling fair trade goods a living wage is paid to employees, they do not work excessive hours and no children are employed in the toys production. Many toys are supplied to us be Lanka Kade, please read their fair trade policy here. By buying and selling fairly traded toys we are all promoting better working conditions and in turn better living conditions for families of the workers. Environmental policy Where possible we obtain our packaging from "green" suppliers. We also recycle any packaging where possible and also use our own shredded waste paper. Many of our toys are made from rubberwood. Rubberwood is ecologically "friendly" lumber used in today's toy industry. After the economic life of the rubber tree, which is generally 26-30 years, the latex yields become extremely low and the planters then fell the rubber trees and plant new ones. The rubberwood then often used to be burnt. So, unlike other trees that are cut down for the sole purpose of producing toys, the rubber trees which have exhausted their latex producing cycle are recycled to make these toys. This wood is therefore eco-friendly in the sense that we are now using what was going as waste. Unlike plastic, when these wooden toys come to the end of their useful
life they bio-degrade, causing less harm to the enviroment and future
generations. |
